IVSAA pays tribute to Ussman Ghauri

A two-day exhibition to pay tribute to artist Ussman Ghauri was held at the Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture (IVSAA) recently.
The show that featured Samina Raees Khan, Aamir Ghori, Moeen Farooqui and Adeela Suleman as speakers was held for fellow artists to pay tribute to Ghauri – a teacher, artist, curator and a friend – who breathed his last on April 9.
On the first day, commemorative speeches were given by friends and well-wishers in Ghauri’s loving memory.
Besides Ghauri’s artwork, the show also included works by other artists, such as Meher Afroz, Noorjehan Bilgrami, RM Naeem, Ather Jamal, Abdul Jabbar Gull, AQ Arif, Abdullah Syed, Aakif Suri, Abdul Malik Channa, Abid Hasan, Abrar Ahmed, Ahmed Khan, Ahsan Jamal, Ali Azmat, Alia Bilgrami, Amean J, Amir Raza, Aqeel Solangi, Arshad Faruqi, Asif Ahmed, Bina Ali, Eeman Mahmud, Faisal Asghar, Fahim Rao, Farrukh Shahab ,Ghalib Baqar, Ghazanfar, GN Qazi, Irfan Gul, Irfan Hasan, Kareem Thobani, Khuda Bux Abro, Madiha Sikandar, Maqbool Ahmed, Masood A Khan, Masooma Halai Khawaja, Masooma Syed, Moeen Farooqui, Mohan Das, Momin Zafar, Mudassir Manzoor, Mughees Riaz, Munawar Ali Syed, Muzammil Ruheel, Nahid Raza, Naiza Khan, Naveed Sadiq, Nurayah Sheikh, Qamar Siddiqui, Quddus Mirza, Rabeya Jalil, Rabia Shoaib, Rana Shamim Zafar, Rashid Arshad, Risham Syed, Romila Karim, Roohi Ahmed, Saba Khan, Sadaf Naeem, Sadia Jamal, Salman Hassan, Shafiq Ahmed Tunio, Sohail Abdullah, Syed Faraz Ali, Tariq Javed, Tabinda Chinoy, Talat Dabir, Tariq Qaiser, Tazeen Qayyum, Zoay, Riffat Alvi, Waseem Ahmed, Zahid Hussain Soomro, Zahin Ahmed, Zarina Hashmi and Adeeluz Zafar.
Ghauri was born in Sukkur. He received his Bachelors degree in Design from Lahore’s National College of Arts in 1992. He received his Masters degree from the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia, in 2000.
He had been teaching printmaking at the IVSAA since 1996. He held a number of solo shows locally as well as participated in several group shows in the USA, UK, Japan, Oman and Mauritius.
He also worked for VASL, a local chapter of UK’s Triangle Trust Network in 2004. That same year, he also attended the International Artists Workshop in Mauritius.
