Additional District and Sessions Judge Javaid Sindhu on Wednesday directed Sabzazaar Police Station Station House Officer (SHO) to conduct an inquiry against Salman Talib and Muhammad Zaheer, who allegedly contracted gay marriage.
The judge was hearing an application filed by Muhammad Nouman. Nouman, had submitted that his brother, Salman, who came back from the United Kingdom a few days ago, had married Zaheer under the UK law. When Salman’s parents asked Salman to marry, Salman showed reluctance and after a few days disappeared with Zaheer. Nouman submitted that he had filed an application in the Sabzazaar Police Station for his brother’s recovery but the SHO had refused to take any action, saying that he could not do anything as they both had married under the UK law.
Upon SHO’s refusal, Nouman filed an application in the court of additional district and sessions judge seeking direction for registration of an FIR. The court summoned SHO and directed him to conduct an inquiry in this regard. The court contended that if Salman had kept Zaheer with him as his male bride then a case could be registered against them according to the law.
