12,737 driving licences issued during first quarter of 2011

City Traffic Police (CTP) issued driving licences to 12,737 candidates including 1,102 women in first four months of the current year. Chief Traffic Officer Syed Ahmad Mobeen said about 14,997 people had applied for motorcycle, car and commercial vehicles’ licences but only 12,737 passed the test. Licensing Deputy Superintendent of Police Ali Iftikhar Jafery said CTP had increased the duration of the international driving licence from one year to three years. He said the tests for commercial licence were being conducted in the presence of Motor Vehicle Examiner Liaqat Ali Malik to ensure transparency.
