The Sindh High Court on Tuesday restrained the respondents, former office-bearers of the Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE), from operating CPNE bank accounts until the next date of hearing on May 26. The Sindh High Court’s division bench of Chief Justice Musheer Aalam and Justice Syed Hasan Azhar Rizvi also issued notices to respondents Aamir Mehmood, Syed Hamid Hassan Abid, Ghulam Nabi Chandio, the Sindh deputy attorney general and advocate general to file their comments on the next date of hearing.
Petitioners Ilyas Shakir and others satted in their constitutional petition that the respondents, belonging to the Khushnood Ali khan group, illegally occupied the council’s office and unlawfully operated the CPNE bank accounts. The petitioners added that on December 2, 2010, the respondent announced the election of the council. To serve their ulterior motives, the respondents announced the nominees, displayed the final list of candidates and conducted the elections the very same day, which was in violation of the articles and memorandum of the society.
