The Pakistan Cricket Board Monday announced the names of women cricketers who were given Central Contracts for the calendar year 2011. The women cricket has transformed into a professional sport which requires full time commitment and a professional approach to the game.
With professionalism, there arises a need of compensation. Over the past couple of years, Pakistan women cricket team has shown a gradual but positive progress and on the basis of their recent historic achievement of winning the gold medal in the 16th Asian Games held in Guangzhou, China; Chairman PCB Ijaz Butt announced to award Central Contracts to the women players.
An official of the PCB said that the contract is for One year from Jan 1, 2011 which is divided into four categories (A, B, C & D or stipend). It is pertinent to mention here that 19 girls have been awarded the contract whereas one of the players namely Sania Khan’s contract has been withheld due to medical reasons as she is currently undergoing a rehabilitation program in due to her shoulder injury.
Once she will be cleared by PCB’s medical panel, then her contract will be issued accordingly, an official of the board said.
The list of the awards is:
Category A: Sana Mir, Javeria Khan, Nain Abidi, Bismah Maroof, Batool Fatima
Category B: Nida Dar, Asmavia Iqbal, Qanita Jalil, Marina Iqbal, Sania Khan
Category C: Masooma Junaid, Sadia Yousaf, Rabiya Shah, Sana Gulzar, Sidra Ameen
Retainership: Kainat Imtiaz, Nahida Khan, Namra Imran, Faryal Awan, Areeb Shamaim
