If Pakistan do not stage a comeback in the second Test, then they will slip down to the ninth place in
the Test ranking, the slot just above Bangladesh. Pakistan’s defeat to a second string West Indies team is set to plunge Pakistan to its lowest depths. The team lost to West Indies by 40 runs in the first Test at Providence Stadium Guyana.
Currently ranked sixth in world cricket ranking, Pakistan is now in danger of slipping to the ninth slot and a shade above Bangladesh if they do not stage a comeback in the second Test set to start from May 20 at Basseterre. Though Pakistan is hailed as one of the finest teams in the world cricket with abundance of talent, the team was recently embroiled in a player power battle. Waqar Younis, the coach has also been criticised by Shahid Afridi, their One-day team captain.
The result of all these is that the whole team is now losing its focus. Misbah-ul-Haq, the captain of the Pakistan team, candidly admitted that “to lose the Test is disappointing, but I think the West Indies played better cricket than us and they bowled disciplined lines.” It is important to find out how West Indies, with hardly any experienced bowlers, are bowling better line and length than Pakistan.
In fact, the best of West Indies bowlers are still playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Misbah also said: “We dropped so many catches and gave away so many runs to the lower order. It is little disappointing from the batting view also.”
