Former world number one Jelena Jankovic cruised into the second round of the WTA Brussels event with a 6-2 6-3 victory over Anastasia Rodionova. Jankovic’s serve was broken just once during the match while she was able to break her Russian-born Australian opponent on four occasions.
The fourth seed will next play Sweden’s Sofia Arvidsson, who beat Coco Vandeweghe in the first round 6-3 7-6(6). Third seed and French Open champion Francesca Schiavone also enjoyed a comfortable opener as she beat Bulgaria’s Tsvetana Pironkova 6-2 7-5. World number one Caroline Wozniacki is the top seed in the Belgian capital but she has received a bye into the second round.
