High blood pressure silent killer, say experts

High blood pressure acts as a silent killer and causes kidney problems in some 21 million people in Pakistan every year, said speakers at a seminar held at the city government’s Abbasi Shaheed Hospital on Tuesday to mark the World Hypertension Day.
Health experts said that high blood pressure causes death during pregnancy and also affects the heart.  EDO Health Dr Nasir Javed said that primary healthcare can prove beneficial in controlling the ailment.  
KMDC Principal Professor Waqar Kazmi said that prevention in high blood pressure cases is essential as this could lead to heart and brain diseases. He said that by controlling and checking blood pressure regularly, one can overcome the dangers of hypertension.
Earlier, a health walk was also organised by Abbasi Shaheed Hospital on World Hypertension Day. The participants of the walk resolved that they would not only take preventive measures to save them from hypertension, but also play an active role in creating awareness about the disease.  A free medical camp was also held on the occasion where blood pressure was checked and sugar and cholesterol tests were conducted.
