Gilchrist takes Bangalore by storm

Piyush Chawla took four wickets after Adam Gilchrist’s 55-ball 106 as Kings XI Punjab crushed Royal Challengers Bangalore by 111 runs in their IPL match at HPCA stadium in Dharamsala on Tuesday. Chasing a huge victory target of 233, Bangalore were bowled out for 121 in 17 overs. Ryan Harris scalped Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli in his successive overs as Bangalore got off to a bad start.
Gilchrist took a good diving catch to dismiss Chris Gayle for a duck off Harris in the second over and in the next over Dinesh Karthik caught a flying edge off Kohli’s bat to give Harris his second wicket. Bangalore lost their third wicket when Shalabh Srivastava had Saurabh Tiwary caught by David Hussey at mid-wicket.
Bangalore lost their fourth wicket in the next over when Paul Valthaty had Asad Pathan caught by Hussey in the covers. Piyush Chawla then had Mohammad Kaif stumped by Gilchrist to reduce Bangalore to 72/5. In his next over Chawla clean bowled Arun Karthik by a full-length delivery and four balls later had AB de Villiers caught by Gilchrist to shut out any hopes of Bangalore’s resurgence.
Chawla took his fourth wicket in his next over when he trapped Johan van der Wath plumb in front of the wicket. Harris took his third wicket when he had Abhimanyu Mithun caught by Hussey at mid-on. Shalabh Srivastava clean bowled Charl Langeveldt to register an emphatic victory for Punjab.
Earlier, Gilchrist’s 55-ball 106 and Shaun Marsh’s 49-ball 79 powered Punjab to 232/2.
