A division bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday adjourned until May 23 the hearing of a bail petition by former Bank of Punjab (BoP) president Hamesh Khan and his co-accused Shekih Afzal in the Rs 9 billion BoP loan scam. The division bench, headed by LHC Chief Justice (CJ) Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry put off the proceedings because BoP lawyer Memona failed to show up.
The National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) counsel submitted reply to Khan’s bail plea. Khan’ counsel had criticised the NAB reply, submitting that the case had been investigated by several officers and there was more than one version of the case. Earlier, Khan had re-filed the bail petition after his counsel Mehmood A Sheikh, withdrew the petition on September 29, 2009 on the plea that it would be filed later with some amendments.
Khan is accused of sanctioning Rs 9 billion loan to Harris Steel Mills against rules and regulations.
