Dr Nabi Bux Baloch was a unique person, who worked in folklore, literature, education, history, civilisation and culture, provincial Culture Minister Sassui Palijo said at condolence reference organised by Sindh Culture Department in collaboration with the Sindh Graduate Association (SGA) in memory of the late scholar.
“His research was also unique and his work can help spread awareness and enlightenment among the future generation,” she added. Palijo said that Dr Baloch used a scientific approach in his work. “He was a multidimensional personality and his death has created a vacuum in the history of Sindh.” She said that his unpublished material would be published in English to inform the youth about his creative work and services.
“We should compare our history with that of the Egyptian civilization. We are not fighters, but when someone attacks us, we should fight back with sprit and enthusiasm.”
The Culture Department has set up a corner in the Sindh Museum named after Dr Baloch and the Bhit Shah Excellence Centre has also been renamed after him. A summary has also been sent to the chief minister suggesting that the Central Library be renamed after the late scholar.
“A chair can also be established in the University of Sindh and at least one road would be named after Dr Baloch in Sukkur, Larkana and Hyderabad,” Palijo said.
She also said that there are monuments and other places that have been demolished and this needs to be stopped.
Earlier, Culture Secretary Abdul Aziz Uqaili, SGA Chairman Dr Suleman Shaikh, former vice chancellor of the University of Sindh Mazharul Haq Siddiqui, Sindhi Language Authority Chairperson Dr Fehmida Hussain, Dr Nawaz Ali Shouq, Prof Saleem Memon, Prof Rakhman Gul Palari, Wali Muhammad Roshan and Yasir Kazi also highlighted the services of Dr Baloch in various fields.
