Albeit the Sindh government has been experiencing a financial crisis, it released Rs 38.8 million in cheques to informants for providing the law enforcers with information regarding criminals, Pakistan Today has learnt. Sources in the Home Department said that the money was allocated for informants in cases of around 57 notorious bandits who were either in police custody or killed in encounter during 2008-09.
Senior authorities have been left wondering how the Home Department was able to release such a huge amount of money between April 30, 2009 and June 15, 2009.
“In Sindh, where even a development scheme of an administrative department requires a couple of months to fulfil the necessary requirements for the smooth release of funds, how were Rs 38.8 million released so soon?” the sources marvelled. The Home Department issued multiple cheques as reward money for informants in several districts of the province, they added.
