The Supreme Court was informed on Monday that 80 percent of agriculture farms located in the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) were being misused and were working in violation of terms and rules.
A two-member Supreme Court bench comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and Justice Ghulam Rabbani was hearing a suo motu case pertaining to illegal use of agriculture farms located in the federal capital.
Appearing on notice, Imtiaz Inayat Elahi Malik, Chairman CDA, stated that he had conducted a survey of these agriculture farms after the issuance of notice by the court. He said 80 percent of the allotees, who had got lands for the agriculture farms, were violating the terms and conditions and using these farms for other purposes. He said 610 agriculture farms were allotted to different people. He said three allotees had converted their agricultures farms into marriage centers, which were a source of disturbance for the neighbors.
He said allotees had approached the civil courts for getting stay orders after CDA issued notices to them after the apex court’s suo motu notice of the matter. He said he had also constituted a committee to examine each case of the agriculture farms. Appreciating the court’s efforts, he said CDA had retrieved 13,000 kanal of land due to the intervention of the apex court. The CJ observed that everything should be done in accordance with rules. The court directed the Islamabad civil courts to dispose of the cases of agriculture farms owners expeditiously and adjourned the hearing of the matter for one month.
