‘Government plans setting up IT campuses at district level’

The government plans to establish information technology (IT) campuses at district level across the country, Senate Chairman Farooq H Naek said on Monday. “The prime minister has approved the move to set up IT campuses,” he said while addressing the 2nd Convocation of Virtual University of Pakistan here after conferring degrees upon the graduating students. “The Virtual University is expected to play a significant role in nation-building,” he added. He assured the authorities of the Virtual University that he will discuss the matter of giving the university a transponder on PAKSAT free-of-charge with the government to support its efforts to provide affordable world class education in every corner of the country.
“It is for the first time in the history of the country that students in small towns like Badin, Digri, Ghotki and Shikarpur are exposed to the lectures delivered by best faculty of the university,” he pointed out.
He said that the present government aims at improving literacy level and spreading education in order to utilise knowledge as a vehicle of progress, development and enlightenment. Quantitative and qualitative growth can take place through the use of technology for the dissemination of education for students across the country,” he maintained. The Senate chairman said that the innovative mode of delivery for teaching and instructing large number of students has made Virtual University’s mode of education most effective not only for Pakistan, but for other developing countries as well.
