The Government of Punjab announced on Monday to break the begging bowl by not accepting foreign aid in the future. Addressing a news conference here on Monday, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said the time has come to reject foreign aid and boost trade. “The decision to break the begging bowl is not easy, he said, calling upon the nation’s nobles and affluent people to make sacrifices.”
The Punjab government, he said, had started to cut non-productive spending. He said that his government has sold over 800 government vehicles and deposited its revenue in the national exchequer. “We need to bring about revolutionary changes from Karachi to Khyber,” he added.
He said that foreign aid had been proved to be a “poison” for the national sovereignty and its integrity. “We have mortgaged our sovereignty by accepting foreign aid,” he said.
He said that the nation had to break the “begging bowl” to live as an independent nation.
The Pujab CM added that the Punjab cabinet had decided not to accept the foreign aid and its recommendation were being sent to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Chief Nawaz Sharif. He eulogised Nawaz for not bowing to foreign pressure on the issue of nuclear blasts.
