Lahore High Court Justice Abdul Waheed Khan on Monday directed the Auqaf authorities to keep the main gate of the Shrine of Bibi Pak Daman opened throughout Monday night during the commemoration of the martyrdom of Hazrat Ruqayya Bibi (SA)’s mother.
The court passed this order on a petition filed by Syed Waqar Hussain Naqvi. The permanent closure of the main gate after 8 pm, which the authorities have been doing as a security measure since last year, was questioned.
Through a separate petition, Naqvi had prayed for interim relief that the gate be kept open throughout the Monday night. The court asked the authorities to keep the door open after 8 pm. The petitioner disputed the ban imposed on public entry to the shrine at night on pretext of security risk. The judge also directed Punjab Police inspector general to ensure security at the shrine.
