The tussle between the guard and the doctors of Jinnah Hospital remains cloaked in mystery as the Young Doctors Association (YDA) claims that the guards have been arrested while the hospital administration and the police claims that no guard was taken into custody, Pakistan Today learnt on Saturday. The scuffle between the guards and the doctors started late on Friday when a guard allowed an extra attendant in the emergency ward, on which a doctor, Usman, assaulted the guard. After the scuffle, the hospital’s guards went on strike.
The matter was later settled by the hospital’s management. Jinnah Hospital Chief Executive Javed Akram said that no guard was taken into custody and that the strike remained for some hours and was resolved with apologies from both sides. He said that the termination orders for the guard were cancelled pending complete investigation by the hospital administration. YDA claims that the guard, which initiated the scuffle, was terminated and was in Garden Town police’s custody.
YDA further claimed that YDA had nothing to do with the guard and they wanted the names of the men who were called from outside of the hospital. YDA spokesman said, “Jinnah Hospital’s security guard called some outsiders who beat up the doctors. An FIR was launched against that security guard at YDA’s request. Upon investigation, the administrative authorities found him guilty and hence he was terminated from the job. No one should touch the guard in the police station. All we want is the names of the outsiders.” Garden Town Police Station moharrar said, “The police kept waiting outside the hospital for more than three hours but did not arrest any guard, an FIR though has been lodged.”
