On e-journalism

This is with the reference to the letter “E-journalism in our universities” by Ahmad Hammad on May 4, 2011. The importance of e-journalism in today’s world is beggar’s description as blogging and web-marketing have become the part and parcel of internet. At the time when international media continues to have its dominance in the world, the importance e-journalism exceeds all the more. PU’s decision to start an e-journalism course as an optional subject in the fourth semester of their master programme is a welcome move.
I endorse writer’s words “that only one optional subject will prove to be an absolutely futile practice” in driving home the point. I must say that this will not solve any problems. We need a full fledged programme in this field.
On the other hand, students should be taught this subject as compulsory one throughout two years in masters and four years in BS Hons rather than one subject containing one semester. It would produce far-reaching effects in future.
