Mother, infant killed in road accident

A 30-year-old woman was killed on the spot after being run over by a speeding coaster on GT Road in Rahwali while her six-year-old son succumbed to injuries in a hospital. Reportedly, Rehana was crossing the road along with her son Omar when a coaster, coming from Rawalpindi, crushed them. Resultantly, Rehana died instantly while Omar breathed his last in a local hospital an hour after the incident.
RESTORATION OF THREE FILLING MACHINES ORDERED: Judicial Magistrate Dildar Shah has ordered restoration of three filling machines of police welfare petrol pumps which had been sealed during a raid on the charge of tampering with the machines. The police authorities had sought the restoration of these machines their vehicles were not getting fuel for patrolling. Most of the city filling stations have tampered with their filling machines and the labour department has never bother to check them.
Recent raids revealed that more than 80 per cent of filling machines in the city were tampered with, and filling station owners were fleecing their customers. These machines are being restored after payment of fines, but no one is bothering to force the filling stations’ owners to keep the scales in right position.
Citizens’ Council Chairman Zia Ullah Irfani criticised the administration for restoring these machines without getting these in order. He demanded stern action, including heavy fines and closure of filling stations for at least one month. He also demanded raids on regular basis so that citizens could not be deprived of huge losses on daily basis.
BLIND MURDER TRACED: City Division police have traced a blind murder of the wife of a renowned religious cleric and nabbed a gang of robbers, involved in snatching cell phones and cash on highways and city streets. Reportedly, Baghbanpura police arrested Abubakr Naeem for killing his stepmother a week ago. During the investigation, Abubakr Naeem, the eldest son from the first wife of Muhammad Naeem, confessed to his crime and told the police that his stepmother misbehaved with his little sisters and brothers, so he killed her.
The police also busted a dacoit gang and recovered six cell phones, cash and four pistols from a five-member dacoit gang. City Division Superintendent Police Rai Ijaz said that Kamran, Abdul Khaliq, Rafaqat, Atiqur Rehman and Asif Nazeer had snatched dozens of cell phones in the city and suburban areas at gunpoint.
DISTRICT JUDICIARY TO MEET ON 18th: A meeting of the district judiciary will be held on May 18 in connection with the implementation of the decisions of the National Judicial Policymaking Committee. District and Sessions Judge Rashid Qamar will convene the meeting and review disposal of cases, besides discussing the strategy of ending corruption in the lower judiciary.
