Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Punjab President Imtiaz Safdar Warraich said that the joint sitting of the parliament has helped a lot in ending the ‘misunderstandings’ prevailing between the masses and the security forces. He was addressing a news conference held at the PPP Provincial Secretariat in Faisal town on Saturday. Among others the party Punjab and Lahore chapter office bearers and the party MPAs were also present on that occasion. Talking to the representatives of print and electronic media Safdar Warraich said PPP government believes in supremacy of parliament and this joint sitting was arranged to take true public representatives into confidence.
History had no example for having such session and what was briefed to the parliament was comprehensive, he added. Commenting over the non-participation of the Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif in the joint sitting of the parliament the PPP Punjab chapter president said, “It sounds like an attempt to divide the nation. Shahbaz Sharif should definitely attend the joint sitting of the parliament to strengthen the democracy.” He said Sharif ‘preferred’ holding meetings with the top slot army officials in the ‘darkness of night’. He said that this was the time to strengthen the democracy and democratic institutions.
He said that for the first time a strong message has been given to the world community against drone attacks through the resolutions passed unanimously. Those not attended the joint session missed the chance to register their protest and the people would remember all the names who not voted against drone attacks, he said. Responding to a question regarding the Lahore High Court (LHC) decision to restrain President Asif Ali Zardari from continuing the politics as head of the state, the PPP Punjab chapter president said that a conspiracy was being hatched to keep Zardari away from the national politics.
Replying to another question about the drone attacks in the country he pointed out the ‘black bands’, he was wearing at his arm, were a protest against the drone attacks. When asked to comment about the recent induction of the PML-Q as government ally he said that PPP had offered all the political forces to come forward and support the government to serve the masses. When his attention was drawn at the statement of the PML-N leaders about the failure of agencies in connection with the Abbottabad operation, the PPP leader said that after the joint session of the parliament no one should have any doubt in mind.
