PEMRA issues show-cause notice to Geo News

Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) Friday issued a show-cause notice to the Geo News for airing programmes in sheer contravention to patriotism as well as in disregard to the code of conduct.
The Geo News on May 12 around 7:56 pm aired a considerably derogatory song ‘Kon Sacha Kon Jhuta’ maligning and demeaning the government as well as the armed forces, said a press release issued by the PEMRA. It is reiterated that under Section 20 of PEMRA Ordinance (Amended as PEMRA Act-2007) read with clause 1 (g), (h), (j), (o) and (p) of PEMRA Code of Conduct contained in PEMRA Rules-2009 and license terms and conditions prohibit airing of such programmes.
It has also urged all satellite TV channels to exhibit maturity and utmost cautious while debating or propagating any issue related to national interest.

Chairman resigns
ISLAMABAD – Mushtaq Malik, chairman of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA), resigned from his post on Friday. Malik sent his resignation to Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani who accepted it. The notification of resignation is likely to be issued soon. Malik had been on leave for last two months. Online
