Gen Wynne cancels US visit

In a clear reflection of profound anger prevailing among the country’s defence circles over the covert US operation in Abbottabad on May 2, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Khalid Shameem Wynne has cancelled his US visit scheduled for May 22.
General Wynne’s US counterpart, Admiral Mike Mullen called him two days ago to discuss matters relating to the CJCSC’s visit to Washington but Gen Wynne told Mullen that he was not going to undertake this visit.
“General Wynne was supposed to leave for Washington on May 22 and remain there until the 27th. This important visit was scheduled a couple of months ago but owing to serious Pak-US row over the US Special Forces operation in Abbottabad early this month without informing Islamabad, the trip has been cancelled,” a senior security official said on Friday.
He said it was Admiral Mullen, who had extended the invitation to General Wynne but when the CJCSC informed Mullen that he was not coming to the US, the top American military official was highly perturbed to hear that.
