Verdict violation of fundamental right, says Awan

Former law minister Babar Awan said the verdict of the Lahore High Court ordering President Asif Ali Zardari to stop political activities in Presidency was in violation of fundamental right and his party would react after studying the verdict thoroughly.
Talking to the reporters, Awan said taking part in politics is fundamental right of every citizen and the constitution of the country does not bar the president from politics. He said that the Presidency is third pillar of the Parliament, adding that that it would be the unique decision in the world history that politics has been banned for one component of the parliament.
This decision of the LHC would start a new debate, he added. Babar Awan said that ban on the President’s political activities was extra constitution. Former federal minister further said that political people elected to run the parliament and election of the president itself was the largest political activity. He said the political parties nominated the president therefore the president was a political figure as per constitution.
