Although a number of uplift works are being carried out by the city’s administration, the City District Government Karachi (CDGK), like in the past, has once again ignored the densely Pakhtoon localities in developmental projects, Pakistan Today has learnt.
Much like previous administrations, the current regime is also carrying out massive uplift works in selected areas of the metropolis, leaving the backward and undeveloped parts of the city lagging behind in the race for development.
Sources told Pakistan Today that the SITE Town Administration has opened tenders TO/TMA/ST/NIT 177/11 – TO/TMA/ST/NIT184/11 and TO/TMA/ST/NIT178/11 on emergency basis and in a hap-hazard manner. These tenders were awarded to the blue-eyed contractors of the CDGK in return for at least six percent of the whole amount in advance, sources alleged.
The opening of the tenders before its due time is aimed at low-quality of the development work in the SITE area, sources said, adding that contractors would ultimately complete the work but without maintaining quality of work.
Awami National Party (ANP) spokesperson Qadir Khan told Pakistan Today that his party leadership had met Town Administrator Imran Aslam and Town Infrastructure Officer Iqtidar Hussain, and conveyed the reservations of the ANP regarding overlooking Pakhtoon abadis. However, no positive response was received from the town administration, he said.
“We (ANP) demand of the Sindh government to take notice of the prevailing situation and immediately cancel the tenders given to blue-eyed contractors by the town administration,” Khan added.
