A man, who tortured his three-years-old daughter to death near Kharak Stop on Multan Road in the Sabzazar Police Station precincts on Wednesday, confessed to his crime in police custody on Thursday. Maheen, a resident of Bahawalpur, had moved to the city along with her father Tariq Mehmood and grandmother a couple of week ago and started living in a rented house located near Kharak Stop on Multan Road.
On Wednesday, Tariq was making arrangements for the funeral of his daughter when some local residents informed police claiming that Tariq has tortured his daughter to death. On being informed, police reached the spot and removed the body of the deceased to Jinnah Hospital morgue for autopsy. Police said that the accused tortured Maheen to death after which he took her to Social Security Hospital where doctors pronounced her dead. Police said that marks of bruises were visible on different parts of the deceased’s body.
Police arrested Tariq and registered a case against him. Sabzazar Police Station Investigation In-charge Inspector Muhammad Azam told Pakistan Today that the accused confessed to his crime during investigation and told police that he killed his daughter because she wanted to live with her mother, who had field a petition in court for separation. Azam said that the accused told them that the mother of the deceased was pressurising him to give her daughter back on which Tariq got irritated and badly thrashed his girl that led to her death. Azam said that police were collecting more evidences against the accused to prepare a solid case.
Man gunned down for resisting robbers: A 35-year-old man was shot dead while a labourer injured when they offered resistance during a robbery in the Shahdara Police Station precincts near Flower Market on Thursday. The deceased was identified as Rashid, who was contractor of an under-construction plaza, while the injured was Azam, a labourer, who worked there. According to reports, both of them were sleeping in the plaza when armed dacoits stormed into the under-construction building and demanded valuables and cash from them. When Rashid and Azam offered resistance, the dacoits opened fire at them.
As a result, both were injured and rushed to a nearby hospital where Rashid succumbed to his injuries while the condition of Azam was reported to be critical.
