The Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) team probing into the Haj scam returned disappointed from Saudi Arabia last Tuesday, as it failed to investigate a man who levelled allegations against State Minister for Religious Affairs Shagufta Jumani for taking bribe from a company for haj arrangements.
A two-member team of the FIA visited Saudi Arabia to investigate Ibrahim Baghdadi of Musasa Company who alleged that Jumani had taken 100,000 Saudi Riyal as bribe for hiring its company’s buildings for pilgrims. The team, which consisted of Inspector Hameedullah and Ifikhar Abbass, returned disappointed on May 9, as they failed to investigate Baghdadi, an FIA official told Pakistan Today.
The official said the FIA team had considered arresting Jumani but the senior FIA officials directed the team to first interrogate the accuser. He said the FIA team was also collecting information about property and bank accounts of Shagufta Jumani. “The FIA has discovered some of Jumani’s accounts, but so far, they have no solid evidence which might pave the way for her arrest,” he said.
The Interpol has already issued red notice for Ahmad Faiz, who allegedly embezzled 18.32 million Saudi riyals in collaboration with agents and officials of the Directorate of Haj in Makkah, he said.
