High skilled worker migration is a major setback to our economy. A skilled worker is any worker who has some special skill, knowledge, or (usually acquired) ability in his work. Although I am not denying the fact that there is importance of money exchange in a country.
The migrants work in receiving/host countries and send money back to their homes which is the major source of their income. They provide cheap labour to the host country and income to the sending country. For example, host countries like UK, US, Australia and other countries in Europe prefer to hire Asian labour for their cost benefits.
There is a very interesting case of a 10-year-old girl named Arfa Karim from Faisalabad, Pakistan. She is the youngest programmer in the world. Bill gates invited this young talented Pakistani girl to the US and offered her internship after few years.
He asked her to complete her study at Harvard University and then join Microsoft Corporation. Such talented people like Arfa Karim are the hope for our country’s prosperity. They should work in a manner that not only benefits them but also their country, like convincing the companies abroad to invest in Pakistan for their new ventures.
My point is high skilled labour should stay and serve their country. We have talented, skilled labour but European countries provide them such benefits which resist them to leave their beloved country. Here comes the role of the government, multinationals and local entrepreneurs to provide jobs and benefits according to their skills which they really deserve.
Education, training, and targeted economic development may actually increase skilled migration in the short-to-medium term, but it is the best means of addressing a developing country’s skill shortages over the long run. The promotion of human rights may also play a role in this context.
