God has blessed Pakistan with abundant water resources, with water flowing down the Himalayas and Karakoram heights, from the world’s largest glaciers. As a result of this natural resource, we have the world’s largest irrigation system that irrigates over 16 million hectors of land, out of the 34 million hectors of cultivable land is available. The basic utilisation is for irrigation and then for power generation.
Our country is facing severe shortage of water. The main reason is the gross negligence in the development and mismanagement of water resources. Out of the average annual inflow of the Indus, 97% is used in agriculture and the remaining 3% for domestic and industrial purposes. But, the major portion of our water resources flows to the Arabian Sea without any proper utilisation.
Presently the losses occur due to seepage, infiltration and leakages etc. These losses can be reduced or eliminated by lining the canals. In addition, people should be educated to conserve water. Government should also make laws on water conservation.
The problems faced by the water sector in the country are many, acute and serious. Therefore, building more reservoirs and effective management strategies are the needs of the time.
Also, the implementation of the recommendations will enable the country to meet the challenges, and achieve the objectives of integrated, resourceful and financially sustainable management of limited water resources. It will also enable us to utilise every drop of our water for our bright future. Decisions must be made on pre-emptive basis to ensure that our future, and the future of our coming generations, is secured.

we agree with you on this issue. no doubt, water crisis of Pak are rising as a big issue and may cause a lot of problems in future.
