The mother of Maffia, who had married out of love, thrashed her daughter on the premises of the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday, before the judge allowed Maffia to go free with her husband. Maffia ran away with Sajid Ali and married him on April 6, 2010, without her family’s consent. Maffia’s family had registered a kidnapping FIR against Sajid in Police Station Sadar Sialkot. LHC Justice Anwarul Haq was hearing the petition seeking deletion of the FIR lodged against Sajid.
Yesterday, both the families, for the first time, came face to face in court. Maffia’s parents, seven younger sisters and brothers were present outside the court. A scuffle between the two families started when Maffia’s mother tried to talk to her daughter but she preferred to stand with her husband’s family. About 25 men and women from both sides including their lawyers scuffled while Maffia who had fallen on ground remained a disputed property between the crowd for 20 to 30 minutes until LHC security officials separated both parties and took the girl away from them.
Maffia lost her shoes in the scuffle and walked bare-footed to the court, where she told the judge that she married Sajid by her free consent and had the right to tie the knot with a man of her choice. She said the kidnapping FIR against Sajid was baseless and should be quashed. The court allowed Maffia to go with her husband and quashed the FIR.
PUNJAB BANK SCAM: A division bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday adjourned till May 17 the hearing of the bail petition by Hamesh Khan, former Bank of Punjab president and the principal accused in a loan scam of Rs 9 billion. The division bench headed by LHC Chief Justice (CJ) Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhry postponed the hearing after the petitioner’s counsel sought time to examine documents submitted by the Bank of Punjab.
Khan had filed the bail petition for a second time as earlier his counsel, Mehmood A Sheikh had withdrawn the petition on September 29, 2009 on the plea that it would be filed later with some amendments. Khan had withdrawn the petition, as the Supreme Court (SC) dismissed the request for transfer of his case to another bench of the LHC. The SC, while dismissing the transfer application, held that it was the prerogative of the LHC CJ to fix the case before any bench for a hearing of the case in view of its nature.
REMAND EXTENDED: An accountability court on Wednesday extended till May 25 the judicial remand of Adil Saleem Tikka, co-accused in a fraud case regarding transfer of the property (No1-E/III) owned by Sheikh Muhammad Ayub on Main Boulevard near United Christian Hospital, Gulberg III, commonly known as QASR-e-ZOUK, through fake documents.
I'm glad the court decided to go with Maffia's decision. People are so backward, otherwise, that, they prefer to do everything the parents say, because of the deadly threat that comes there way. I still get deadly threats from my father hahaha
But thats a different issue : P
