On the directives of the Lahore High Court, police on Wednesday registered a case against a senior journalist and his 11 accomplices on the charges of theft, trespassing and threatening. The case has been registered with the Civil Lines Police Station, Lahore, under different sections of the Pakistan Penal Code.
Complainant Khalid Ameen, also a journalist, in a petition told Justice Mazhar Iqbal Sindho that on the night between March 16 and 17, he and his servant Aftab Ahmed reached his residence on Lawrence Road, when Daily Jinnah Managing Director Khushnood and his colleagues attacked him and entered his house forcibly. He claimed that the intruders damaged valuables worth around Rs 40,000 and when Aftab tried to stop them, they trashed him with sticks while he was also manhandled as he intervened to rescue him (servant).
Later, they managed to escape from the scene, he added. He further said the reason behind the violent act was his apartment 8D, located right over the owned by Khushnood on the first floor of the Evacuee Property Trust Board’s flats, adding that the senior journalist wanted to occupy it as well. The court, after hearing his arguments, ordered the police to register a case against Khushnood and other nominated persons.
