The protest lodged by employees of the Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) is likely to end in a couple of days after a third party agreed to negotiate a compromise between the parties, Pakistan Today has learnt. Sources said that both parties have approached the third party – said to be an influential shareholder in the company – to broker a truce.
“Both parties have shown willingness to be flexible in their respective stances so as to resolve the issue,” sources said. A meeting in this regard will be held today (Wednesday) between the mediators and workers’ representatives, and the issue would also be discussed with the high-ups in the KESC, source claimed. On the other hand, sources within the company and some leaders of the workers leading the protest denied that any such negotiations were going to take place.
They did argue, however, that the main stakeholders, including the Karachi Chambers of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), trade associations, NGOs and other social organisation should step forward to resolve the issue as it was paralysing city life.
