A workshop on “Capacity Building of Staff of Teacher Education Institutions” was held on Tuesday at the Sunfort Hotel with the cooperation of the National Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (NACTE). Punjab Literary and Non-Formal Education Secretary Dr Allah Bakhsh Malik and NACTE Chairperson and former University of Education (UoE) vice-chancellor (VC) Dr Munawar S Mirza were the chief guests.
The underlying principle of the workshop was to guide and help staff of Teacher Education Institutions in conducting internal evaluation of their own programmes, preparing self-evaluation reports and preparing external audits and accreditation by NACTE. More than 50 scholars, educationists and experts from across the country participated in the workshop.
Addressing the participants, Bakhsh said that teachers are considered as agents of change and we must focus on quality if we want to improve the quality of education in general. He applauded the efforts of NACTE to bring quality to teachers’ education. Addressing the closing ceremony, Dr Mirza acknowledged the whole NACTE team, especially Secretary Dr Irshad Farrukh and Research Officer Huma Lodhi, for arranging the workshop.
She explained how a National Accreditation Body such as NACTE could facilitate uniformity of standards at national level envisioned in the 18th Constitutional Amendment regarding entrusting standards of higher education and all professionals to the federal legislature.
