Food items becoming out of reach

What a country to live in, for the rich only though. As a new day dawns, we hear something new that makes it even harder for the poor to live a peaceful life. First it was petroleum prices, then electricity and gas shortages, and now the price hike of food commodities has made the life of the people miserable.

A poor daily wager cannot think of earning enough to buy food for his children and provide them education at the same time. With his meager pay, he either has to sacrifice his food or education of his children. Why the government is not thinking along these lines is a point to ponder.

The government has to start programmes that help people meet their basic necessities easily. A simple programme like the BISP cannot compensate what we are losing in the form of our precious human resources. Moreover, food is a basic right of the people which must not be denied at any cost. This is something that the social welfare states focus on. Only a healthy society can come up with the ideas for progress.
