‘US to support women entrepreneurs’

Dr Marilyn Wyatt, wife of the US Ambassador in Pakistan, said on Monday that the US Embassy would do all it can to promote women entrepreneurship in the country. She said that she was personally interested in women development programmes in Pakistan. Dr Wyatt was speaking at the ‘Lifetime Achievement Awards’ ceremony for the members of Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry (WCCI) Sindh at the Federation House.
The event was jointly organised by the WCCI and the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) to recognize successful businesswomen. Dr Wyatt said that over the last 30 years, there has been a big change in the US and now women work side by side with men in all fields without any discrimination. She said that the US has started a scholarship programme for Pakistani women interested on studying in American or Pakistani universities, especially in management science.
She recalled her earlier age experiences and noted that today’s girls in the US are more organised and privileged. Dr Wyatt said that US Foreign Secretary Hillary Clinton is a role model for women and she has done a remarkable job on the diplomatic front. She acknowledged the courageous role and meritorious services of Pakistani women in different fields including business. “Keep up fighting for your rights and progress,” she said.
