A petition was filed in the Supreme Court (SC) on Monday seeking formation of a high-level commission to investigate the direct United States military operation in Abbottabad that killed al Qaeda chief Osama Bin Laden, and to determine responsibility for the violation of the country’s territorial sovereignty.
The petition was filed by lawyer Tariq Asad under Article 184 (3) of the constitution, making the government respondent through the secretaries of interior, defence and foreign affairs, the interior minister, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) director, military secretary to the chief of army staff, and Hussain Haqqani, the Ambassador of Pakistan to the US.
The petition also asked the court to restrain the respondents from handing over the wives, children and accomplices of Osama bin Laden and investigate and try them in Pakistani courts of law if need be.
