Policemen arrested for embezzlement, negligence

Qila Gujjar Singh police have arrested eight policemen of the Qilla Gujjar Singh Police Lines for embezzling policemen’s salaries and damaging government’s property (total loss worth Rs 6.2 million), Pakistan Today learnt on Monday.
According to the FIR (No 643/11) registered with the Qila Gujjar Singh Police Station, on May 4, Naib Naqdi Muharar, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Mukhtar Ahmed, head constables (HCs) Arshad Shaheen and Abbas Ali, Constable Arshad Iqbal and Driver Muhammad Zahid went to the Police College Sihala along with Rs 1.9 million, an amount fixed for salaries. The policemen distributed Rs 0.3 million as salaries of under training ASIs.
The policemen were returning with Rs 1.6 million when they received information about a protest demonstration near Gujar Khan. The policemen, despite knowing about the mob, tried to pass from the same area but allegedly the protestors stopped their bus and torched it and snatched Rs 1.6 million amount, two rifles and sixty bullets from the policemen.
The FIR states that the incident also caused a loss of government property worth Rs 4.6 million, when the AMTO Javed Iqbal, without informing his seniors, allowed the policemen to take a 72-seater bus to travel back, which means he showed negligence in his duties. Similarly, Ginti Muharrar Lines ASI Safdar Ali and Naib Ginti Muharrar Lines Mureed Hussain also showed negligence in their duties because they had not given sufficient guards to protect government property i.e the bus, the FIR states.
The FIR states that the incident was ‘mysterious’, over which top cops order DSP Head Quarter Mian Khan to probe into the matter, who during the inquiry found the aforesaid policemen guilty of ‘embezzling’ the amount they were carrying and damaging the government property as well. The investigation officer later on arrested the policemen and started probing into the matter.
