PIA officers to get salary increase, revision in pay scales soon

Pakistan International Airlines officers will get a raise in salary and a revision in their pay scales soon, said the national carrier’s Managing Director Nadeem Khan Yousufzai on Monday. He was speaking at a function organised by the PIA Senior Staff Association (PIASSA) in honour of retiring officers at the airline’s head office.
Yousufzai said that the longstanding PIASSA demands for revision in pay scales and increase in the salaries of PIA officers as per the memorandum of understanding signed between the management and PIASSA will be put forth to the board of directors for approval. He said that PIASAA request for confirmed tickets (international routes) for officers after 10 years of service instead of 15 years has been approved.
The PIA managing director also announced an increase in the insurance coverage of officers from Rs 600,000 to Rs 1,200,000 in case of an employee’s death during service, two weekly offs for the officers and the staff of the CRC Reservation Section. He also ordered speedy work on the stuck up promotions of PIA officers, especially in the IT Department. “Revision in the HRB for the promotion of officers is also under consideration,” he added.
Yousufzai said that the management recognises the difficulties faced by officers and staff of the airline keeping in view the rise in the cost of living and expenses. He announced establishment of PIA Foundation, which will have projects that will not only generate revenue but also employment opportunities for retired PIA officers and staff.
After the successful establishment of the PIA Industrial Home where PIA staff’s family members benefit through their contributions in various types of jobs for the PIA, another project under way –Utility Stores for PIA employees – where they will have the facility to buy goods on credit, he said. He further said that other projects are also in process and will be announced soon. “In the future PIA officers would be allotted houses and plots as well,” he added.
The PIA managing director stressed that concerted efforts should be made for the betterment of the airline. PIASAA President Abid Saleem thanked the managing director and directors present on the occasion and assured that PIASSA would fully support the management.
