Parliamentary Committee on Judges’ Appointment approved the confirmation of 19 additional judges and appointment of 14 new additional judges of the Lahore and Balochistan high courts on Monday. Talking to reporters, Committee Chairman Nayyer Bukhari said, “In its meeting, the committee has approved the confirmation of 15 additional judges and appointments of 11 new additional judges for the LHC. The committee further approved the confirmation of four additional judges and appointment of three new additional judges for the BHC.”
Meanwhile, the committee also resolved a row on the formation of the parliamentary body following the PML-Q’s joining the government. The PPP has withdrawn Senator Sabir Baloch to accomodate Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain while the PML-Q has withdrawn Ghaus Bukhsh Mehar to be replaced by two members of the opposition parties, one from the Senate and one from the National Assembly. The seats are likely to be given to the JUI-F, which is the largest opposition party in the Senate.
