A total of 17,658 posts were filled in Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) against approved posts of 18,538 in its 15 departments/sections, Minister for Textile and Industry Makhdoom Shahabuddin told Senate on Tuesday.
Out of 15 departments, the number of people working on existing posts are more than the approved posts in the seven departments, it was informed during Question Hour session of Upper House of the Parliament. Seventy posts were approved for Corporate Safety and Quality Assurance while 91 people were appointed in the same section. In finance, 859 posts are filled against 831 posts, while 886 posts are existing against 811 approved posts in flight operations.
Similarly, 2364 posts are existing against 2005 and 2396 are existing against 2196 approved posts in flight services and marketing respectively. In Pax Handling Services, 2667 posts are filled against 2504 approved posts and 165 are existing against 160 approved posts in Training and Development section.
However, in Engineering department 4048 posts were filled against 4582 approved posts and only 714 are existing in Ramp
Services Division against 1013. In Procurement Logistics and Secretariats, the number of existing filled in post is equal to the approved ones which was 422 and 151 respectively.
Replying another question, he informed, the Managing Director PIA has been provided with four direct telephone connections and one mobile connection. The tenure of MD PIA has just begun and PIA is yet to make any payment against these numbers, he said.
A total of 40 aircrafts are in operational conditions including 06 Boeing 747 and 737 each, 09 Boeing 777, 12 Airbus 310 and 07 ATR-52. The ratio of employees per aeroplane in PIA works out is 475, he informed the House.
