The country’s sovereignty is at stake after the US operation in Abbottabad, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif said on Monday. Describing the release of CIA agent Raymond Davis and killing of al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden in the US raid in Abbottabad as an assault on Pakistan’s sovereignty, Nawaz said it had threatened the integrity as well as the very existence of the country.
Talking to reporters after condoling with former Lahore district nazim Amir Mahmood over his mother’s death, the PML-N chief said the nation was worried over the prevailing situation and wanted to know who was responsible for it. Nawaz said Pakistan was passing through a critical phase and “we need to pull the country out of present threat.” Referring to his statement that President Asif Ali Zardari was a threat to democracy and national integrity, Nawaz said the media should judge whether he was right or wrong.
He said a crucial meeting of the PML-N Central Executive Committee was going to be held in Islamabad to discuss the political situation of the country, adding that the meeting would also discuss the situation after the PPP and the PML-Q coalition partnership and fallout of the US’ unilateral operation against Osama bin Laden. He added that the party would decide the future course of action after the meeting.
