Capital police to launch anti-terrorism drive

Intensifying their hunt for would-be terrorists, the capital police have decided to conduct a door-to-door survey of all residential areas of the city in order to keep a check on residents. The decision was taken at a meeting presided over by Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) (Operations) Bani Amin Khan on Monday.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Tahir Alam Khan, Superintendent of Police (SP) Saddar Dr Khuram Rasheed, SP City Muhammad Ilyas, SP Rural Umer Hayat, SP Industrial Area Ishaq Warraich and other senior police officers attended the meeting, said a police official. He said DIG directed all police officials to collect complete information about the history of people permanently or temporarily residing in all areas of the city.
DIG further directed police officials to involve notables of the community and activate security and vigilance committees to ensure success in obtaining accurate information, added the official. He said DIG also directed SPs to issue show cause notices to investigation officers involved in delaying submission of challans in courts.
The meeting also decided to launch massive crackdown against gambling dens, immoral activities and drug peddling. DIG was informed that looted items worth Rs 33 million, twelve stolen cars, 56 tampered vehicles were recovered from 1212 criminals arrested during last month. He was also informed that a total of 71 cases of drug peddling, 76 cases of possessing illegal weapons were registered during this period.
