Imran Khan joins resignation calls bandwagon

Demanding the resignation of President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan Sunday said the government was directly responsible for the situation arising out of Abbotabad operation. Imran also said that his party would stage a two-day sit-in in Karachi on May 21 and 22 to mobilise public opinion for the restoration of Pakistan’s lost sovereignty, national dignity and blocking the NATO supplies.
Addressing a press conference after the meeting of his party’s Central Executive Committee, Imran said, “The PTI condemns the failure of the political leadership and demands the resignation of the president, adding that they were responsible for the complete chaos reigning in the country. He also criticised the military and intelligence agencies over their failure and asked for a probe into the incident, saying the civil and military officials found guilty of the national humiliation must be held accountable.
Imran termed the US military operation as a unilateral, blatant breach of international law and an act of aggression against Pakistan, and asked the US and NATO countries to withdraw their armed forces from the region as they had achieved their ‘ostensible objectives’. “In an effort to save our national military from being used by an unscrupulous ruling elite as cheap mercenaries and repeatedly selling our people for dollars, the PTI demands an end to any further use of our military in pursuit of the US agenda,” Imran said.
He said the PTI would host a national conference in June to create national consensus on the issues of national security, sovereignty and independent foreign policy.
