Faisalabad thrashed Lahore by five goals to two in the final to clinch the 3rd PHF Junior Super Hockey League here at the National Hockey Stadium on Sunday. With this clear-cut win, Faisalabad pocketed Rs 600,000 besides the winners’ trophy while Lahore got Rs 400,000 and Multan, which got the third place in the League after beating Quetta, got Rs 300,000. Bilal Qadir of Faisalabad for his beat performance throughout the event secures Rs 25,000.
Pakistan Hockey Federation Secretary General and Olympian Muhammad Asif Bajwa was the chief guest on the final match and distributed the prizes among the winners and other participants. Tournament Director Rana Mujahid Ali, Abdul Hanif Khan Chairman National Selection Committee, Arshad Ali Chawdhry and Khalid Bashir members the selection committee and others Olympians Khawaja ZakaudDin, Anjum Saeed, Saleem Sherwani, Mohammad Akhlaq, Danish Kaleem, Ahmed Alam were also present. Apart from the final, Multan and Sialkot played for third and fourth place and the former won the match on penalty shootout 7-6.
In the final, Faisalabad did not let the hosts Lahore bounce back. Faisalabad started scoring goals right from the start with the opener coming in the third minute of the match. They kept swelling the lead and Faisalabad got two goals in the first half and later in the second session added another three. When Faisalabad showed laxity, Lahore penetrated through their defenses and managed to get two goals— one through penalty corner and the other through a field attack in the 52nd and 54th minutes of the match.
Lahore’s two goals brought some hope for them at 2-3 but Faisalabad got into the game with more vigour and increased the lead 5-2 that remained intact till the final hooter. Earlier in the day, Multan and Quatta played an even game in the allotted time and even after the extra minutes that led them into penalty shoot out. In the full time, they remained locked three-all. The judges decided to test the abilities of their goal-keepers and they were separated after 7-6 golden goal.
