Mother’s Day fervour reached its peak on Sunday when everybody paid tribute to their mothers to honour mothers’ contributions to society. Several events were held in the provincial metropolis to commemorate the day. Special prayer services were held in all churches of Lahore while the Punjab Institute of Language and Culture (PILAC) hosted an event to pay tribute to the mothers.
Many celebrities and politicians paid homage to their mothers on this day.
Muttahida Qaumi Movement Chief Altaf Hussain said whatever he had achieved was due to his mother. He urged the citizens to acknowledge the sacrifices of their mothers. Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan said a mother contributed to the society most. “Perhaps it is due to the negligence of mothers including my own self that fibers of our society are getting weakened day by day and we are facing problems like extremism,” she said.
A Punjab College student, Haseeb Ahmad Bajwa, said he wished his mother by sending her a cake by courier. He said his mother was surprised and excited to receive the gift. A housewife, Ayesha Akram said, “I felt the importance of a mother’s role when I myself became a mother.” The cafes at the M M Alam road offered discount deals on the occasion and remained flocked with children accompanying their mothers to treat them on the day.
Mother’s day greetings were printed in the newspapers and aired on various television and radio channels. Besides the electronic and print media, social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter were crowded with statuses and tweets, wishing mothers.
