7 years in waiting, Frere Hall book fair makes a comeback

After a gap of seven years, the City District Government Karachi resumed holding the Weekly Book Fair in the historical Frere Hall on Sunday. A large number of book enthusiasts, journalists, intellectuals and writers as well as Karachi DCO Muhammad Hussain Syed, former Karachi Metropolitan Corporation administrator Fahim-uz-Zaman Khan, Sindh government Archives Special Secretary Iqbal Nafees visited the book fair, which was started by the defunct KMC in 1997 and continued till 2003, after which it was stopped due to security reasons.
Many people expressed great interest in the books which had been put on sale on 25 stalls at the fair. The Karachi DCO announced that the number of stalls would be doubled next week. He also announced that the historical Frere Hall Library and Sadequain Art Gallery will also be opened for public on Sundays. He said that literary gatherings will be held at Frere Hall on Sunday besides events including book launches, painting exhibitions etc so that the historical hall could be used for educational and literary works.
He also assured the visitors that he will talk to the authorities about opening the roads to Frere Hall for public on Sundays.
