Women’s festival in Peshawar attracts thousands

‘Huner-e-Hawwa’, the three-day festival organised to encourage women’s participation in practical life, continued to enthral people Saturday as they thronged the venue to entertain themselves amidst rising militancy and resultant war on terror which have suffocated the routine life. It was the second day of the event, organised by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Tourism Corporation at the Nishtar Hall Peshawar, where women artists and handicrafts experts from all across the province including Mardan, Chitral, Swat, Haripur, Abbotabad, Dera Ismail Khan, Charsadda and other areas are participating in a large number.
It is the ever first women festival in the history of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The extravaganza showcases modern and traditional cultural fashion show.
More than 50 stall of food, dress designing, handicrafts and other ornamental accessories are on the display, which is attracting thousands of women. A variety of competitions in painting, cooking, bridal makeup and traditional games are also a part of the festivities.
The most attractive segment for school-going and adults is the acrobatics and gymnastic performance by 13-year-old Maryam Akhtar from Karachi.
Professional designers and the students of Peshawar University are also participating in the competition while people are also entertained through music.
A visitor, Musarrat, termed it as a historical event for the women of KP and said it was the combination of tradition and modernity.
“The festival would not only revitalise our culture but also produce talent in every field of life,” Sania, a student, said. Meanwhile, the provincial Sports Department is also holding a traditional women sports event simultaneously at the Qayyum Sports Complex.
The event jointly organised by the Sports and Culture departments would conclude today Sunday.
