Outages persist despite pleasant weather

Power load shedding in the city persisted despite a reduction in the electricity shortfall on Saturday. Power demand decreased because of a change in weather but there was no relief for the consumers in outages. The power shortfall came down to 2,580 MW while the demand for electricity was 15,032 MW and power generation was 12,452 MW. Hydroelectric generation improved but thermal production remained poor. Hydroelectic generation touched 4,711 MW while thermal production was 1,714MW.
Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO) Managing Director Rasool Khan Mehsud had promised that thermal generation would improve, which would help reduce load shedding. “I assure you that load shedding will reduce in two days, as we have made payments to power producers and Pakistan State Oil (PSO),” Khan said in a press conference four days ago, when thermal production was 1,426MW and on Saturday it rose to 1,714MW.
Central city inhabitants witnessed eight to ten hours of load shedding, while the outages prolonged for more than 14 hours in the city suburbs. The consumers said there have been no relief in load shedding. “The weather turned pleasant and power demand reduced but load shedding still stands unperturbed,” said Javed Ahmed, a citizen, adding that the PEPCO should ‘celebrate pleasant weather’ otherwise protests would rise.
