The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has so far failed to produce any evidence of corruption against former religious affairs minister Hamid Saeed Kazmi.
Kazmi is facing a trial in an anti-corruption court over allegations that he received Rs 10,000 for each pilgrim during Haj operation last year.
“We have scrutinised relevant documents and recorded statements of 630 private tour operators, but could found no evidence supporting graft allegations made against Kazmi by Pakistani ambassador in Saudi Arabia Umer Ali Khan Sheerazi”, an FIA official told Pakistan Today on Saturday. Ambassador Sheerazi had alleged that private tour operators, that facilitated journey of 84,000 pilgrims, had paid Rs 10,000 per pilgrim to Hamid Saeed Kazmi for allotting them the Haj quota. The FIA investigation team, he said, was investigating Haj quota allotments. The official said FIA investigators would soon question the pilgrims too in this regard.
