One’s own language

A language is the identity of a nation. The mother language shapes the customs and traditions of society. It unites people under the same umbrella. Most of our regional languages are ignored in our school systems and they are not formally taught. This applies to all local languages which are the lifeblood of our culture and identity. For instance, although Urdu is our national language, over the years it has been replaced by English in many schools. Even though there is no harm in learning new languages, doing so at the expense of one’s mother tongue is not good at all.

Every year, new books of the English language are introduced in the school curriculum. It’s true that at least two English books are part of the syllabus. Introduction of new Urdu literature and language, on the other hand, is neglected and more Urdu books should be introduced. Equality in both languages should be maintained. Urdu literature is essential for our school-going children.

Awareness and importance of Urdu literature for our primary students is very necessary and it should not be compromised at any cost.
