Nisar demands fact-finding commission

Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Nisar Ali Khan on Friday demanded the government form a fact-finding commission to investigate issues like the Kargil war, Raymond Davis incident and the Abbottabad operation. In his second press conference in as many days, Nisar demanded the government explain the policy statement given by Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Kayani in the aftermath of the Abbottabad operation. “The government is taking the incident as a great victory while the COAS declared it otherwise,” he said while addressing a press conference at Parliament House. He said GHQ’s stance was entirely different from the government’s point of view.
Calling the incident “most tragic happening after the fall of Dhaka”, he said the beyond-comprehension silence of the rulers was indicating that the government was concealing facts linked with the Abbottabad operation. Nisar said rulers had lost the right to govern the country, as the incident had put their loyalty with the country in doubt. “Zardari should wake from his deep slumber,” he said. “US president was directly monitoring the operation and he took his nation into confidence after that.
Our president was sleeping unaware of such a significant development at that time,” he added. He said the criminal silence on part of the government was giving rise to speculations and deepening the sense of despair among the countrymen. He also alleged that the Abbottabad incident was interlinked with the CIA agent Raymond Davis saga. “At the time when law enforcement agencies were capturing such covert operatives across the country, the PML-N had demanded fair investigations and accountability of those apprehended, but government paid no heed to its demand,” Nisar said. Reiterating his stance, the opposition leader demanded a fair inquiry into the issue saying, “The tragic incident demands resignation, after fixation of responsibility, of some major personality,” he added.
